Singh on song for Worcestershire with a match winning spell on the 4th day that shattered Gloucestershire’s obduracy. Three days of nip and tuck, jab and weave, patient, one-for-the-purists cricket broke down on the morning of day four, as Fateh Singh inspired Worcestershire to a five wicket victory at New Road.
Gloucestershire won the toss and had first use of a pitch that, as Miles Hammond’s unbeaten 139 would later attest, had plenty of runs if one was prepared to work for them. Skipper Cameron Bancroft made 52, and Hammond received good support from the lower middle order, as Gloucestershire were eventually bowled out for 289, which at the time felt about eighty runs light.
