Gloucestershire return from the East Midlands with spirits lifted, a valuable win secured, and momentum finally beginning to build. A week’s rest in the competition has left the squad refreshed and ready to push on as they prepare to welcome Kent to Nevil Road on Friday. With both sides coming off their first victories of the season, the contest feels evenly poised and full of early‑season intrigue.

There is disappointment in the camp as Henry Brookes returns to Middlesex after sustaining an injury during the third innings against Derbyshire. His absence is a blow, given the impact he has already made this season. but Gloucestershire were given an immediate lift by Ed Middleton, who announced himself in the 2026 campaign with an impressive batting display that showcased his potential and added fresh energy to the side. Ed contributed well alongside Miles Hammond (145) and Will Williams (98) creating an impressive 498 first innings total.

This fixture also carries a sense of nostalgia for Gloucestershire supporters. It was against Kent that Cameron Green produced a superb 128 on day two, a defining innings that helped secure victory on the final day. His heroics, combined with James Bracey’s excellent 127, powered Glos to a commanding 516—an imposing total that truly put the pressure on Kent. With Kent having not won in Bristol for over a decade, Gloucestershire can take confidence from both history and home advantage as they head into the match.

Kent, meanwhile, arrive with a subtle but intriguing reinforcement in James Taylor, signed on a two‑match Championship loan from Surrey and immediately added to the travelling squad. Their batting line up is in strong form, with Chris Benjamin scoring 170 runs across two innings, Joey Evison contributing a composed 88 in the second innings, and captain Daniel Bell‑Drummond leading from the front with a superb 129. Their bowling attack, however, remains a point of concern despite Matt Milnes rediscovering his rhythm with an outstanding 6/12 on home turf last week.
