After being reduced to 19-4 inside 9 overs in the first 35 minutes of the match, you may well have reasonably thought that being 5 wickets away from victory on the final morning would have been mere fancy, a product of a fevered imagination. Yet here we are.
Northants won the toss and elected to bowl first on a hybrid pitch, that was always going to do plenty for the bowlers. It was this type of pitch that gave Northants so many problems 2 years ago in that infamous abandonment, with umpires initially citing a dangerous pitch, that gave Northants batters nightmares. Perhaps it was a first volley in psychological warfare before a ball was bowled in this contest. Or perhaps it was the only available wicket, as the others are being prepared for the Blast and Women’s World Cup.
