Winning the toss should have offered Gloucestershire with the chance to dictate terms. However the early loss of Rebecca Halliday left Gloucestershire 7/1 forcing the top order into survival mode. The 50 over contest provides players with the opportunity to settle into their batting whilst still showing off their flamboyant batting shots. But when several players made starts but none convert then into strong match making scores, it becomes incredibly hard to build a foundation for a successful game.
There seemed a familiar pattern for Glos; a promising boundary, a few tidy overs of rotation, then a lapse - misjudged drive, mistimed sweep, a pressure induced error. Season long loanee Chloe Brewer was the only player who managed to build some form of a batting performance hitting 60 off 74 balls. Brewer's six years in the professional game added a sense of structure and strength which Gloucestershire required. Scoring a half century on debut is a beacon of positivity for the side and something we hope progresses over the season.
